A long time ago, and I mean teenage years, I decided that I needed a purpose in my life. It needed to be something that would satisfy my need for constant change, find value in my ability to pursue many things at the same time, and yet also allow me to keep food on the table and a roof over my head.
This purpose would see me wear many hats throughout my career. My first three careers were as a musician, soldier, and freelance journalist.
It was my 4th career, tech writing, that set me on the path that I have been following ever since.
After that, I learned about structured authoring, information architecture, instructional design, elearning development, and project management.
These skills have let me work on office tech guides for Deloitte, telephony spec manuals for Nortel, bridge maintenance courses for a rail company training program, cancer staging manuals for use by doctors, and teaching taxonomy to companies around the world.
So what was the purpose I chose for my life?
